No Nessie spotted, part two...

So, we left Hamilton in high spirits even though the rain was still coming and headed for Dumbarton, for the traditional Morrison's breakfast.

At one point, along Loch Lomond, we found Firkin Point. We didn't bother asking what the Firkin Point was; we thought better of it.

We had a short stop around the loch for loos and photos, then carried on along the side of them on a fantastic bit of road.

Lots of rain, twists and turns later - and the sight of a couple of patches of snow at Glencoe - and we were well on the way to Loch Ness. At one point we travelled up General Wade's Military Road, although when this bit of Scottish history was broadcast to the rest of the cars, no-one was particularly bothered. Can't say I blame them - it was still looking pretty miserable.

And who could forget the Commando Memorial photo opportunity - or the one at the castle with the £6.50 toilet charge...

Nearly at Inverness, we encountered a convoy system of roadwork traffic where we had to wait for a while. Eventually the convoy man arrived, and as he took us past, another workman was videoing our convoy with his mobile. Yea, and there was much cheering and beeping of horns as the workmen waved us on.

Unfortunately the lead car got a stone stuck in the brakes and had to stop, so the rest of us carried on to the campsite.

Once there, after waiting for the support van to get in so we could get our tents out and up, we were ready to camp. The weather had looked promising in the afternoon but by the time our takeaways turned up, it was very wet again. There was nothing more we could do but socialise in tents and have a beer or two...
