Wednesday morning greeted us at 0530 to get ready to leave the newly-but-not-very-well-refurbished Welcome Lodge in Charnock Richard.
By 0700, accompanied by drizzle, we set off up the road towards bonny Scottishland. Some had fanbelts squealing, others had no lights, but all of us were desperate to get to Morrisons for breakfast - or for the loo...
After filling up cars and bellies, we headed off for Carlisle over Shap Fell - a nice bit of road when the weather's good, which at that point it wasn't.
If you've never driven round Carlisle during mid morning, but want to, I suggest you rethink your life. It took us almost an hour to travel from one end of the town boundary to the other thanks to a monstrous one-way system.
Interesting sights in Carlisle included a BMW X5 with the number plate J5 SUS (either a religious driver or what his passengers shout when he's on the road) and the rug shop whose website is rugsuk.com.
After Carlisle we reached Gretna Green, where we had a lunch stop and some had chance to buy souvenirs. Then the next thing we knew we were in half-decent weather, on the campsite, set up and ready for beer. Er, food.
And that's where we've just come back from, after helping to celebrate Grace's second birthday. Perhaps we helped celebrate a bit too much... only the morning will tell...
