Hello, and welcome to anyone who didn't read these posts during last years LEJOG - and for those that did, well you already know what to expect!
This is the inaugural post of the 10th anniversary LEJOG Charity Mini Run, organised (as ever) by the North Devon Mini Register. This post covers Saturday and some of Sunday, due to the general level of tiredness (!) and some minor technical difficulties (!!)
So, much as last year we left the back door at first direct at 0700 exactly. After 10 hours, several bottles of refreshing liquids, a few cigs and a couple of fuel top-ups, we arrived at Westward Ho. Largely an uneventful and quite wet journey (except for the Australian sign...) we found it much less tiring than last year, opting for a combination of the A61 and A38.
My new quick pitch tent was just that - up and pegged down in less than a minute. Paul's was similar, taking slightly longer but still a vast improvement on last year's 30 mins each.
Then we had the first bit of rain and wind...
We managed to get set up before the rain really started, finding that the Minibum had let in a little water but not enough to worry about, we popped off to Morrison's for some "supplies".
When we got back, a number of the new teams had arrived and were getting set up so we lent a hand as needed; then it was time to get to know everyone, and relax with a beverage as the wind and rain came down...
Team Three Bob Hustlers (Us) remembered the team building exercise that Terry had arranged - washing and polishing the minibuses at Little Bridge House - and the request for sponges and anything else to help. So we presented Terry with a bag of sponges. Twelve plain and twelve chocolate, to be exact. Some of us, crammed into John and Nadine's tent, didn't quite get the pun...
Sunday came very early, with the rain mid way through the night followed by the wind blowing the tents sideways.
After coffee and ablutions we were all ready for the trip to Little Bridge House. More follows...
