Saturday

Up not quite as early as expected on Saturday, due in part no doubt to the cumulative effects of Old Engine Oil ale and Grace drawing on my trousers thinking they were a blackboard.

Tents were packed away (that pop-up tent was a fantastic idea) and Dennis and Minibum were packed up ready for the journey back. As is traditional in these things, we had slightly more room in the Minibum than when we'd left a week earlier...

We knew the last leg of our journey would be the worst - 400 miles in one day, still sticking to A-roads wherever possible or practical.

After the horror that was Perth town centre last year we were determined to avoid it, and we did the same with Edinburgh, but mostly our route consisted of the frustrating and frankly draining bits of the A9 and the wettest bits of the A68 down to Newcastle.

We then headed into Washington to stop off at Paul's brother's for a human fuel stop.

Setting off again we hit the A19 and the old A1 down to Wetherby, then a trip along the A64 (rather than the motorway) which, I think actually got us into Leeds quicker than the M1 would have done.

And so, we returned to first direct at about 1830, had pics taken by the first person we could grab, and made our own ways home from there.

This year was more enjoyable than last, and I think slightly less tiring; perhaps this was due to better weather and a better route there and back. The people doing the run were great again, new friends made and old friends remade, cash raised and fun had. Roll on LEJOG 2009 8-)
