Wednesday

Wednesday is our shortest day and it started well, getting washed up and out to the car for 0730 to set off. We left the services and headed for Kendal, the breakfast stop.

The run to Kendal was good, with no problems - apart from some signage issues meaning we became split up heading for Carnforth.

Other than this, traffic was light and we were soon on our way to Shap and Penrith.

Shap, and its associated Fell, were covered in mist and drizzle like last year so it was a wet run up the road. Things dried up a bit in time to get split up and lost in Carlisle, but we all got through eventually.

Carlisle was much better than last year, mainly due to the roadworks having finished. We still got chance to laugh at a very drunken cider drinker who waved at us as the classic Minis went past - but stuck a finger up at the BMW ones...

Bertie was also enthusing at the sight of wedding dresses in shop windows as we went by, possibly due to the fact that we were heading for our lunch stop, Gretna Green.

Once at Gretna Green, we stopped (both car 1 and us parking in the caravan parking) and headed for a browse round the shops and some food. It was at this point that, as Chris (napoleon) approached us from the car park, Penny announced "I don't recognise you when you come up behind me!"

During the break, Terry asked if we'd like to move up from 14th position to 2nd, so the trailers would be together and I wouldn't have to thrash Dennis to play catchup. We agreed, so now we're behind the lead car, which should certainly help on the way through to Inverness.

Refuelled, we headed off to Moffat on a fantastic road which runs most of the length of the A74(M), making good time to the campsite. Tents were up quickly as a shower fell, and soon we had chance to relax before going to the Star Hotel for tea.

After tea and a drink or two, we got back to the campsite to be greeted by some shocking news.

Teeth and Moo (two recent additions to the run, whose pictures have been taken in a variety of situations) were found to have been kidnapped whilst a number of people were still in the pub. Then, ransom notes were found.

Immediately the rumours began - had they eloped? Was their desire to hold ice cream too much for their new lives as Lejoggers? Was it aliens?

Everyone was interviewed - although not a great deal of evidence was gathered. However we do now know that, at the time of the kidnapping, John was busy phoning an 0870 number from the back of the Star and Amanda was busy answering it and Leanne was cooking a roast dinner when she could hear fire engines...

Maybe we'll know more come Inverness...
